One of the most common questions expecting parents ask is: “When is the best time for Newborn Sessions?”
The short answer? Ideally, you’ll want to reserve your session about 2–3 months before your baby arrives. Planning ahead ensures your spot is secured on your photographer’s calendar and gives you time to thoughtfully prepare every detail of your experience.
But if your little one has already made their debut, take a deep breath. You have not missed your chance.
Let’s walk through what timing really looks like when it comes to newborn portraits.
Newborn photographers accept a limited number of sessions each month. Because babies arrive on their own timeline, photographers must keep space flexible, which means calendars often fill quickly.
When you reserve your session during your second trimester (or early third), it allows us to:
Most importantly, booking early lifts one more task from your mental load, allowing you to focus on the many details that naturally fill an expecting mother’s heart and mind before her baby arrives.

The traditionally recommended time for newborn photos is within the first 1–3 weeks of life. During this stage, babies tend to be sleepier and naturally curl into those gentle, womb-like poses.
It is a fleeting season, one where tiny fingers, delicate lashes, and that irresistible new-baby softness change almost daily.
Photographing your baby during this window allows your photographer to capture these special details of brand-new life.
Here is something I want every parent to hear:
No baby should ever miss the opportunity to be photographed simply because the “ideal window” has slipped away.
Over the years, I have photographed many babies well beyond those early weeks, and the results are equally meaningful.

Older newborns often bring something unexpected to their session:
Your gallery may look slightly different than that of a very sleepy newborn, but it will be rich with personality and emotion.
And truly, that is what matters most.
Not in my book!
I regularly photograph babies up to three months of age, gently adapting the session to honor your baby’s developmental stage. Whether your little one prefers to be swaddled, cuddled, or wide-eyed and observant, we create images that feel natural and timeless.
Please know you, you can still have the timeless portraits of your baby!
If your baby has already arrived, congratulations on this extraordinary new chapter.
I encourage you to reach out as soon as possible, and I will always do my best to find the earliest available date for your family. Even last-minute inquiries are worth making, my schedule occasionally allows for flexibility.
Because preserving these first memories should never feel out of reach.
Booking early is wonderful.
Booking “late” is completely okay.
What matters most is that these first days, however they unfold, are captured in beautiful, timeless portraits.
Your baby will never again be this tiny. And years from now, these photographs will mean everything, both you you and your baby.

If you are expecting, the best time to reserve your newborn session is now. And if your baby is already in your arms, I would be honored to document this beautiful beginning for you.
