“He was up all night,” the mother whispered, cradling her baby against her chest. “I’m worried.” I’ve heard those words more than once in the morning of the in-home newborn photoshoot.
This particular morning? Baby had gas. Parents had slept barely two hours, and mom was convinced the session would be a disaster. But I’ve been through this before, and I knew what we needed: a warm home, a carefully swaddled baby, time to breathe, and patience. By the time I’d rocked her little one to sleep and started taking photos, mom had dozed off, too – curled on the couch, finally relaxing.

That image stayed with me. A mother finally exhaling. That’s what these sessions are really about.
If you’re wondering what to expect from your newborn photography session – especially if the thought of “getting it together” feels like a joke right now – you’re absolutely in the right place.
You don’t need a spotless living room or picture-perfect light. In fact, some of my clients have newborn sessions with boxes still half-unpacked after a recent move.
In your home, with your baby’s familiar sounds and rhythms, everyone relaxes. That is the secret.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes tip I always offer my clients: bump your home temperature up by a few degrees.

There’s no clock-watching here. Newborn sessions tend to move slowly – and they’re meant to.

I photograph parents in the gentlest, simplest way. A soft backdrop, neutral shades, no pressure.

I love when mothers fall asleep during our sessions.
Yes. I can. That’s as much a part of my job as taking a pretty photo.
This season is fleeting, and I don’t mean that in the Pinterest way. It’s fleeting in the real, messy, your-baby-fits-in-your-forearm-for-only-three-weeks way.
When you’re in it, it’s hard to know what to hold onto. But these photographs become proof – proof of your love, your exhaustion, your immeasurable strength.
They’re for your children, too. One day, they’ll look at these images and see just how much they were cherished from the very beginning.

If you’re a Bay Area or East Bay parent looking for soulful, honest newborn photography brought directly to your home, I would be honored to work with you.
At SoPoDesigns Photography, I serve families exactly like yours – juggling careers, home life, and this tender new beginning.
You don’t need perfect light, a magazine-worthy home, or a full night of sleep.
You only need this moment, as it is.
I’ll take care of the rest.
