Fall in SF Bay Area is a great time to take family portraits!
To create artistic portraits that will look timeless on your walls, it is important to carefully select coordinating outfits for each member of the family. Personally, I like to start with a dress for a mom, something she likes and feels gorgeous in.
Deep fall colors of the foliage (brown, yellow, rust, dark red, dark green) help photographs look fall-like (especially for San Francisco East Bay, where most locations won’t showcase classic autumn foliage). Then choose another color that complements mom’s dress. If the dress has a pattern (for example, floral), pick out colors from the pattern itself. Finally, add neutrals such as white, cream, beige or gray. Black is also a great option for fall.
As with any photo session, it’s extremely important to avoid distracting patterns, brand logos, cartoon characters, graphics and pinstripes. Neon snickers, although so loved by most kiddos, are best avoided for the portrait session.
Skirts and dresses that are long and flowy look beautiful on any age and shape. For fall portraits, consider adding knit sweaters, vests or scarfs. Knit or crochet bonnets are adorable on babies and toddlers, while wide brim felt hats look flattering on moms and dads.
